Adding your decks and uploading deck photos

This is a members' feature. Join Simply Tarot to use it.

Your journal keeps track of the decks you own, and you can build up a library of photos of your own actual cards. That's what makes a recorded reading feel like your reading rather than a generic one.Your photos are private to you. Nobody else can see them, member or not. They show up in your journal and in the readings you've recorded, and nowhere else.Photographing a whole deck. There's a camera built into your journal that stays open while you work, so a full deck is one sitting rather than an afternoon.
  1. Open the deck in your journal and tap Photograph cards.
  2. The camera tells you which card you're on. Line the card up inside the gold outline and take the shot.
  3. Nudge the crop if it needs it, then tap Use it. It saves in the background while you pick up the next card.
A few things worth knowing while you're in there:
  • The four shapes are about the shape of a card rather than its size. Tarot covers standard and pocket. Oracle covers oracle, poker and Lenormand. Then there's Square and Round.
  • Turn puts the outline on its side, for a landscape card sitting in a deck of portrait ones.
  • Straighten appears after the shot, for when your hand jogged on the shutter.
  • It remembers your crop, so a deck that isn't quite the shape of any outline gets set up once rather than 78 times over. Tap any shape to go back to the outline.
Oracle decks. Tap the card name at the top, type the name you want, and it'll offer to add it to your deck. If you get one wrong, open that card in your journal afterwards and rename it. Your photo and your notes move across with it.If the camera won't start, it's usually because the page was opened inside another app, like Instagram's browser. Open your journal in Safari or Chrome and it'll work. You can always pick a photo from your camera roll instead.Once your photos are in, they show as the real card images when you record a reading with that deck. Cards you haven't photographed yet show as a numbered frame with the name on, and they swap to your photo the moment you add one.Photograph decks you own, for your own study. When you talk about a card in Circle, let us know which deck you're using. Deck creators make their living from this work.
